Accelerate two of the most common tasks in PowerPoint

The paragraphs below contrast the slow and fast methods in completing 2 common tasks within PowerPoint.

Task 1: STARTING POWERPOINT

SLOW: Using the mouse.  The process is – click to open up the Start Menu, drill into the different applications, eventually find PowerPoint, and click to start.

FAST: Hold down the ‘Windows’ button, while holding it down, press and release the ‘R’ button. Now release the ‘Windows’ button. You will now see a ‘Run’ window displayed. Type powerpnt into this window, then press your ‘Enter’ key – PowerPoint will now open. (See Figure 1)

Note: When you next use this key sequence to bring up the ‘Run’ window ‘powerpnt’ will be already typed in, so you simply press your enter key – PowerPoint will then open.

Task 2: RUNNING THE SHOW / STARTING THE SLIDE PRESENTATION

SLOW: From the Menu Bar, the user selects ‘SLIDE SHOW’ and can then click on the ‘From Beginning’ button to the left of this toolbar.  Alternatively the user may click on the ‘Slide Show’ button to the bottom left of the screen. (See Figure 2)
